“Maryfest”

Choir presents program in homage to Mary on Sunday, Oct. 20

The month of May is universally regarded among Latin (Roman) Catholics as the month of Mary, the Mother of God. In the Eastern Churches, however – both Catholic and Orthodox – it is the month of October which is dedicated to Mary. The Protection (Pokrov) of the Theotokos, celebrated on the first day of October, is a jubilant feast which commemorates and celebrates the Most Holy Virgin Mary’s intercession and protection of the Christian faithful.

With this solemn holy day as inspiration, the Pittsburgh Byzantine Catholic Archeparchial Choir (PBCAC) invites the faithful to join in a celebration of Our Lady as they convene at St. Elias Church in Munhall to present a song-filled homage to the Theotokos on Sunday, Oct. 20.

The PBCAC lovingly and with great respect have dubbed the first-time event “Maryfest” – evoking the spectrum of emotions which swell within the hearts of Byzantine Catholic faithful who call upon the Mother of God for intercession. The choral program — which will be presented at 3 p.m. in the splendor of St. Elias Church -— also will feature readings and reminiscences recalling Mary’s inspiration, Mary’s impact and Mary’s mercy. Additionally, several special guests will join the PBCAC for this fond tribute.

Along with St. Elias pastor Father Vitalii Stashkevych, the PBCAC warmly welcomes “All the Faithful” to attend this uplifting program honoring the Mother of our Lord. True to the Fall season, a “pumpkin spice” hospitality reception will follow in the parish social hall. St. Elias Church is located at 4200 Homestead-Duquesne Road in Munhall, Pa. 15120.

The PBCAC celebrated 26 years of “heavenly harmony” in July 2024. The group meets at St. Elias Church in Munhall, Pa. on select Tuesdays throughout the year to rehearse under the direction of Darlene Fejka.
