For over 30 years, the Divine Liturgy has been broadcast live every Sunday from Holy Ghost Church in McKees Rocks, Pa., at 9:00 a.m. (eastern) on WEDO – 810 AM. Father Frank Firko, pastor of Holy Ghost, is the usual celebrant with occasional guest celebrants.
The station, located in White Oak, Pa. near McKeesport, has a signal reach of 100 miles and covers communities in the tri-state area of western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio and northern West Virginia. Additionally, Byzantine Catholic faithful throughout the world now can listen to the Divine Liturgy live each Sunday via the Internet at www.wedo810.com.
The Radio Apostolate began as an outreach program for shut-in parishioners of the Archeparchy, directed by then Msgr. John Bilock, who later served as Auxiliary Bishop of Pittsburgh and Archieparchial Administrator.
WEDO, under the leadership and management of John James, is known as the “Station of Nations,” offering ethno-cultural and religious programming for the enjoyment and educational benefit of its listeners. Special broadcasts have included the Divine Liturgy for the Feast of the Nativity from St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Munhall, Pa., and the Sunday Hierarchical Divine Liturgy during the Annual Pilgrimage in Honor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help at Mount St. Macrina in Uniontown, Pa.
Donations help greatly to support the weekly Divine Liturgy broadcast; the remaining airtime costs are subsidized by the Archeparchy.
Contributions to help sustain the Divine Liturgy Radio Ministry are needed and most welcome year-round. Checks/money orders should be made payable to Archeparchy of Pittsburgh and sent to: Chancery, 66 Riverview Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA, 15214, ATTN: Radio Apostolate.
