Eternal Memory: Reverend Father Ronald W. Borsuk

Reverend Father Ronald Walter Borsuk, retired priest of the Archeparchy, fell asleep in the Lord on March 24. He was born on March 10, 1930 in Johnstown, Pa., the only child of the late Walter and Helen (Klochak) Borsuk.

Father Ronald’s elementary schooling was received at St. Columba School in Johnstown. He went on to Central Catholic High School in Johnstown and he then attended St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa. Once he entered SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary, he studied at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. He was graduated cum laude from Duquesne with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1954. Bishop Nicholas T. Elko ordained him to the priesthood at the Seminary on June 1, 1958.

His parochial assignments included: St. Mary, New York, City; SS. Peter and Paul, Portage; St. John, Lyndora; SS. Peter and Paul, Jerome, St. Nicholas, Nanty-Glo; and his last pastorate from which he retired on May 31, 2005, Holy Trinity in Conemaugh. Father Ronald also served as the Director of Religious Education for the Johnstown Protopresbyterate, and as a member of the Archeparchial Matrimonial Tribunal and Ecumenical Commission.

Father Ronald was a member of the Greek Catholic Union, the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, and the Polish Heritage Council of Cambria, Somerset and Blair counties.
Friends were received at Holy Trinity Church in Conemaugh on Friday, April 1. The Priestly Parastas was celebrated by Very Reverend Andrew J. Deskevich that evening. Archbishop William C. Skurla celebrated the Funeral Divine Liturgy the next morning, Saturday, April 2. Concelebrants were Very Reverends Andrew J. Deskevich and James A. Spontak; and Reverends Robert F. Oravetz and Edward J. Pyo. The Deacons were Deacon Raymond J. Zadzilko and Deacon Daniel F. Perich. Monsignor Raymond A. Balta, Reverend Fathers Robert J. Karl, Stephen J. Wahal, Ivan Rusyn, Roman Andriitso and Deacon Larry G. Hruska were in attendance. Father James A. Ragan and the parish cantors led the congregational singing.

Interment followed at Grandview Cemetery. Johnstown.
